This is the craziest thing you’ll ever read. But it’s true. It was a drunk who let slipped the secret that helped me launch a £100K+ business. And this is something that you can benefit from too.
A few Christmases ago, I was invited to a publishing company’s Christmas party in Soho.
It was the tail end of the party, and only three of us were left…
Me, the publishing company’s MD – Chris, and the company’s odd-job man – Mike.
Now, this publishing company is huge, one of the biggest in its field. It pulls in well over £200million a year world-wide and employs over 500 people in eight
different countries.
Chris was about 39 at the time. And as you can imagine he was earning a lot of money. I don’t know how much, but I reckon around £200K a year.
Mike was about the same age, and earning around £21K a year.
Both of them had come from working class backgrounds, neither had gone university, and in their twenties they’d both been pretty hard up.
But ten years later, one was on £21K, while the other was on ten times that.
So what was the difference? What set them apart?
They both worked hard. They were both pretty bright. They both liked a drink (honestly, neither of them was a corporate type).
So how come one was earning a fortune while the other wasn’t?
Well the answer might surprise you…
The golden rule of the rich life
All right all right, I know I said I hate rules. But this revelation is SO important I think you should treat it like a rule. Write it down on a piece of paper, stick it on your desk, stick it on your forehead if it helps (but remember to write backwards so it makes sense in the mirror)…
Here goes…
The rule that goes against EVERYTHING you’ll have ever heard before is this – FORGET ABOUT THE MONEY.
“Whaaaaat? Forget about the money?!!! Are you crazy? I WANT to make money, and a lot of it. That’s the whole point? But there you are, slightly overweight, telling me to forget it?!!!”
Hey – now you’re getting personal. But yes – I’m telling you to forget about making money (and I’m working on the weight).
Just wipe the idea of making money from your mind. Because it’s not really an idea at all. It’s a goal. And that’s completely different.
This is the secret that Chris let slip after the fifth pint of Stella, and it’s one that’s turned me from a £20K-a-year loser to a £100K-a-year guy who doesn’t even have to go to work anymore.
Unless you count a small room overlooking my garden as ‘going to work’.
Seriously, this one BIG IDEA is the foundation for every single penny I’ve earned in the past 10+ years….
The wealth building secret a drunk MD let slip
one Christmas…
Like I said we were all a little sloshed when Mike turned to Chris and said;
“I suppose you’ve always worked hard to get where you are Chris. Get the big pay rises and that.”
And that’s when Chris let his secret out…
“I’ve never once focused on making money,” he said, wagging a finger at the two Mikes he was seeing. “I’ve focused on the ideas. Get the ideas right, make the right choices, and the money will follow. Just forget about the money.”
And that’s a crucial bit of advice you probably will never see written down anywhere else (especially on a money-making website!)
Don’t focus on salary or money, focus on the ideas.
Doesn’t sound like much, but if you can get this concept, you’ll open yourself up to a huge amount of possibilities. If you can latch on to a great idea, and you can make it work, then the money will come.
Think of it this way…
I’m guessing The Beatles never once thought ‘I want these lyrics to make me £1,000. And I want to spend just 30 minutes writing them’. They just set about focusing on the songs, making them great – and the money came.
Likewise Richard Branson didn’t think ‘I want to make £20,000 in 3 months working part time’… he went about finding bands and musicians he was passionate about – and the money came along after.
The focus should ALWAYS be the idea. If you’re starting a business it should be an idea that excites you and one you know how to sell to other people. And if you’re thinking about trying a tipping service or following a stock market strategy or home business blueprint it should be the IDEA that gets you excited, not the amount it says it can make you.
Because spending three hours working on something you like is easy, whilst spending 30 minutes on something you hate is difficult.
Which leads me to another rule, sorry – suggestion from the Rich Life manifesto…
Don’t listen – LOOK.
Don’t even listen to me. I mean it. When it comes to your future, NEVER take anyone’s word for it – not even mine.
Instead, do ONE thing that will accelerate your success more than anything I know…
Always, always look at anything I send you. You may not like it… you may think it’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve ever heard. Hell, you may even send me a letter telling me one of my recommendations was a load of crap.
And you know what…? That’d be great! Because it would show you’ve got a pulse, unlike the thousands of dummies who spend their working lives in a coma just
toe-ing the line.
But you’ll be doing yourself a huge favour if you look at the tips and ideas I find for you, and give them some thought. I’m not saying follow every one to the letter – because not every one will be right for you.
But three ideas, or two, or even just ONE, could hold the key to you starting to earn an extra £2k, £5K, £10K a month. And remember, it’s the IDEA that’s important.
Does it suit you? Do the hours work out? Do you get the strategy? Do you find it exciting?
These are the things you need to think about when you’re looking at ANY biz opp or trading strategy that’s put in front of you.
Even if it’s put there by me. Whatever it is, always take a look at the idea – and don’t worry too much about how much it reckons it will make you. It might be the thing that just clicks with you and sets you off on a much, much richer and exciting path than you ever thought possible.
That’s why I want you to look at everything I throw at you. Because one thing may snag your interest – and that’s the thing you’ll want to focus on.
And if it doesn’t work out, ditch it and move on. If it works, keep it and try something else. Get fired up.
Me – I found the thing I liked – writing. I coupled that with another thing that annoyed the hell out of me… people getting ripped off.
And that’s how The Rich Life Letter was born.
So, if you really want to find something that works for you, ALWAYS look at everything I send you, because I cut out all the crap and handpick systems and strategies that have definitely worked for other people…
And ALWAYS look at the idea behind the opportunity -and see if it excites you. Because you need to get fired up to make anything work.
